Great Southeast Asian food. The concept is slightly fusion-y, but it doesn't dilute the quality or intensity of the dishes. For example I had Cha Siu pad thai. The pork was tender and it was perfect for this dish. Also had som tum and shrimp tom yum soup. Lots more menu to explore, so return visits to come... Space is small and stripped down (which is a good thing, IMHO). The name of the place captures it all, and they live up to the billing.

This spot was so busy on the weekend! I was surprised because most spots in SOMA are pretty quiet on weekends and even closed but maybe that was why they were busy. It is somewhat small and given the business, I'd suggest making a reservation. Parking nearby is not great most days but you can find some options on Sundays since most street cleaning restrictions are lifted (read the signs of course). Overall the food was quite good and so was the service although we felt a little rushed as upon arrival for our 11:45 am reservation, they immediately told us we needed to leave by 1 pm due to a large party. The service felt like it had lulls at times and then there was a bit of rush at the end - would have loved them to offer a to-go container or something. But they did offer refills of water and coffee and generally no major complaints. My friend liked the Crunchy Brioche french toast and found it to be not too eggy like she found most french toast. It did sound like it was somewhat on the sweet side and maybe one note. The spicy bacon benedict was quite tasty but the bacon is not the least spicy despite it being "sriracha bacon" and I don't have a huge spicy tolerance. All the flavors went together well and it was a solid portion between the benedict, the potatoes, and the side of fruit ($1 extra or you can get salad for no charge). It did fall apart a bit when eating but was definitely a dish I'd get again. The eggs were perfectly poached, the portion of bacon was nicely distributed throughout the entire english muffin, and the curry hollandaise was great though it didn't seem that different than a regular hollandaise. The regular coffee (with oat milk) was a lot better than I expected and quite good. My friend didn't like the matcha strawberry drink she got though and said it had little matcha flavor and was a bit too sweet. Overall, 4 stars from me. Personally I would prefer a slightly more relaxed, non-rushed brunch but if you are going to be in the area or looking for something somewhat fast (assuming there's no wait or you have a reservation) I think it's a good option.

What an amazing brunch/lunch spot. This is an Asian fusion restaurant. They serve brunch all day, but they also have some amazing Thai dishes for lunch. We came in at around 12 thirtyish and I was kind of feeling more lunch food so I opted to get the salmon stirfry that came with Jasmine rice. It was super delicious and flavorful. A decent portion of salmon came with it. I also ordered the pink dalgona coffee drink, which was so good and definitely picture worthy. It was super cute to be honest. All their drinks look amazing and I can't wait to go back here and try their strawberry Matcha and also probably one of their brunch dishes this time. We didn't have to wait in line surprisingly but I do hear this place can get pretty busy so would suggest coming early.

This place is actually crazy good. I ordered the Hai Nan Chicken through DoorDash. When my food arrived, right away I noticed the portion size was on the generous side. For $17.95, I thought my order was a great value. The chicken was juicy, tender and flavorful. The entire plate had all the right sauces. The green veggies, the ginger sauce, plus the poached egg all complimented the chicken well. The ginger rice was such a simple yet nice touch that truly made the difference for me and elevated the dish to 5 stars. The menu could be a bit overwhelming because there's a bunch of options. You have to be super thorough and read through it but based on pictures and reviews, it seems like most (if not all) of their food look delicious. Needless to say, I will definitely be back and next time I'll dine in!

My wife and I came in here on a Saturday. We made reservations the day before. Walked in, and was immediately seated. Restaurant was full, and a long line started to form after we were seated. Noise level is on the loud side, but nothing too bad. We ordered: Saigon Steak 4/5 - Plated beautifully. Came with a salad, crispy potatoes, garlic bread, steak and over easy egg on top. The steak was tender with a strong Hoisin flavored sauce. Garlic bread was really good for sopping up the tasty sauce around the steak. Crispy potatoes were excellent. I ended up finishing up the entire plate. Thai Tea French Toast 3.5/5 - This was also beautifully plated. Was cooked well, crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. The Thai Tea syrup was provided in a cup on the plate. We prefer our syrup to be a bit more sweeter than it actually was, but was good nonetheless. Most likely would try the Berry Crunch French Toast next time. Overall, service is good and attentive. The fusion of Thai, Vietnamese and American brunch was intriguing. I would come back. One suggestion, avoid parking in the lot one block up the street, that states $20. That is cash only price. I paid via SpotHero, which ended up costing $31.75 to park for about 1 hour.

There's a lot to choose from, we just by what we thought looked good on the video menu on the wall screens. Easy to get seated, customer service is nice. Food was okay, nothing I think about in my head after. If I could have gotten something, it would have been the fried chicken dishes. It looked real good. Our dishes were "okay", nothing I would come back for again.

My friend and I came in at around 1 for brunch and it wasn't too busy. Our server was really attentive and funny and the food came out fast. We ordered the pandan chicken and waffles and also the garlic noodle bowl with pork. Both portions were really big, especially the garlic noodles. The pork was really flavorful and cooked well with that sweet and salty profile I love. The chicken and waffles were also delicious and I liked how they cooked the chicken with a thick batter. It comes with mustard as the sauce which I love because it's not that common and I'm a mustard lover but if you don't I would ask if you can swap it for another sauce. The pandan flavor wasn't super strong but it was still yummy. Cute fusion spot and I would come again!

Everyone's so nice and the food is delicious! My husband had his birthday this past weekend and let me choose where we'd go for brunch. I had Mr East Kitchen in my bookmarks since last year? Year before last? I'm not sure, but I've had this place bookmarked and so an opportunity came around and I took it. It was around 11am-ish on a Saturday morning and we were able to find parking easily across the restaurant. I was worried it'd be too busy because SF and brunch together is a busy combination, but they had bar seats open and we got seated promptly. The menu isn't super extensive which I appreciated and I read someone else's review prior that they had really good fries here so I opted for their garlic fries, hai nan chicken, Christmas matcha drink, and my husband got their salmon benedict. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice - all the servers we've spoke with were friendly and engaging, not a quick hello and walk away. It was great being in the environment that was as welcoming as this. The food was also very good especially the fries. The sauce that came with the hai nan chicken isn't the usual sauce you'd see it paired with, but it was still tasty and slather a bit of it on the rice and it was good to go. Overall, I'd highly recommend Mr East Kitchen if you're in the area and want brunch!
